It's common for crimes to have complex explanations. However, the attack on Paul Pelosi, the husband of Nancy, the House speaker, in their San Francisco home seems very extreme.
According to Fox News, NBC News fabricated the story about how Paul was able to open the door for the police before he was attacked. He was then beaten with a hammer.

Fox also pointed out that a report about the incident that aired on NBC Bay Area included the same details as the network's retracted story about how Paul was not in immediate danger when the police arrived.
On November 4, a report by Miguel Almaguer, a national correspondent for NBC Bay Area, stated that it was Paul who was in distress before walking back into his house. However, he did not let the responding officers know that he was in trouble.

According to Almaguer, the police did not know that they were at the Pelosi house when Paul opened the door.
Fox News also pointed out that a report by a local reporter for NBC Bay Area included the same details as the network's retracted story about how Paul was not in immediate danger when the police arrived. The report was aired by KNTV, a television station in San Francisco.
According to Bigad Shaban, a reporter for the television station, the conflicting accounts surrounding the incident have to do with the moments before Paul was attacked. There has been a lot of confusion regarding who opened the door when the police officers arrived at the house.
A federal indictment claimed that two officers entered the house. However, the local prosecutor stated that Paul was able to open the door with his left hand.
A local television station cited a source who claimed that the police body camera footage clearly showed that Paul was able to open the door with his left hand. Unfortuately, that video is not available to the public at this time.
