David Plouffe, a top adviser to former President Barack Obama, isn’t holding back in his latest bout of throwing shade at his old boss. Plouffe is straight-up slamming the idea that Obama stood in the way of Joe Biden’s 2016 presidential aspirations. Plouffe told the New York Times that Biden’s claims of being obstructed by Obama are pure fiction.

Plouffe is adamant that there was no red carpet rolled out for Biden, and any notion that Obama blocked his path to the presidency is just plain loony. According to Plouffe, Biden would have thrown his hat in the ring, but let’s face it, he probably would’ve fizzled out like a deflated balloon at a kid’s birthday party. Plouffe insists that the real heavy hitters in the Democratic nomination race at the time were Hillary Clinton and Bernie Sanders, not ol’ Joe.
Rumors have been swirling for years that Biden was none too pleased with Obama for seemingly shutting him out of the 2016 race. In an interview last October with the special counsel, Biden poured his heart out, claiming that Obama bailed on backing his presidential bid because he thought Clinton had a better shot at the Oval Office. Ouch, talk about a cold shoulder from your former boss.
Jumping to the present, in the 2020 election cycle, Obama kept mum and didn’t throw his weight behind Biden until after the Democratic primary. It’s almost like he was waiting to see if Biden could stand on his own two feet before hopping on the bandwagon. But, let’s face it, it’s not like Biden was trying to extend Obama’s legacy with a third term, right? However, if you listen to the haters, they’ll try to convince you that Biden’s choices in staffing and policies are just a recycled version of Obama’s playbook from back in 2008.
The plot thickens with reports surfacing that Obama is whispering in the ear of White House chief of staff Jeff Zients, offering up advice on how Biden should handle his reelection bid. It’s like Obama’s pulling the strings behind the scenes, shaping Biden’s every move. It’s not a good look, folks.
Now, let’s get to the meat and potatoes – the polls. The polls say Biden and Trump are neck and neck, with some even showing a Trump lead. Back in 2020, Biden was sitting pretty with a comfy lead over Trump, but times have changed. The Guardian even reported that Biden is making a comeback in six battleground states, with one Democratic strategist boldly claiming that the “Biden bump is real.”
So, there you have it, folks. Obama may not have physically blocked Biden from running for president in 2016, but it sure seems like he wasn’t exactly cheering from the sidelines either. And now, he seems to be pulling strings from the shadows, nudging Biden this way and that. It’s the political soap opera we never knew we needed!
