In a display that could only be described as painfully awkward, Nancy Pelosi recently appeared on CNN to discuss her relationship with President Joe Biden. It seems that not even the glitzy backdrop of a news studio could thaw the chill between the two pillars of the Democratic Party. As the curtain falls on Biden’s time in the presidential race—thanks in no small part to calls from his own party—Pelosi goes on record denying any involvement in his departure.
Pelosi, speaking with Dana Bash, insisted she had no hand in pushing Biden out the door, despite many allies—like Adam Schiff, Jamie Raskin, and Zoe Lofgren—having reportedly sung a similar tune. One has to wonder if Pelosi practiced her best poker face before the interview because her icy demeanor suggested otherwise. She even had the audacity to throw out a suggestion that Biden deserves a spot on Mt. Rushmore—perhaps in hopes of buttering him up in his moment of need? Because nothing says “I support you” quite like a monument that signifies greatness.

The exchanges between Pelosi and Bash only got more cringeworthy as the interview progressed. When asked if she had spoken to Biden since his drop-out, Pelosi couldn’t muster a simple “yes.” Instead, she offered the classic politician’s excuse that she was “busy.” And when pressed about the state of her relationship with Biden, her response was as warm as a New England winter: a vague hope that everything is “okay.” One must wonder if she’s ever heard the saying “if you have to ask, it’s already over.”
In the aftermath of the interview, Abby Phillip on CNN decided to dissect Pelosi’s responses, noting that not having spoken to Biden in such a critical time might be telling. One does not usually require a high IQ to identify a strained relationship when two prominent figures in Washington, D.C., can’t even coordinate a simple chat. In another segment, former Lieutenant Governor Betsy McCaughey rightfully pointed out that Americans should be focusing less on Pelosi’s awkward exchanges and more on the apparent lack of honesty from Vice President Kamala Harris throughout this Democratic soap opera.
Polling data from YouGov and Times of London indicated that a surprising number of voters believe Pelosi, along with Harris and the rest of Congress, were shifty in attending to Biden’s reelection campaign. With the whispers of a cover-up lurking in the air, one has to question if Democrats think the American public is oblivious, or if they just can’t keep their narrative straight.
Through all the shenanigans, one undeniable fact emerges: the once invincible façade of the Democratic leadership is cracking, and neither Biden nor Pelosi appears to know how to fix the hole in the ship. As Pelosi plays her best “I’m innocent” card, Americans are left wondering if the party can even float, or if it’s destined to sink under the weight of its own dysfunction.
