Rep. Jamie Raskin, Democrat from Maryland, has thrown a curveball to President Joe Biden with a brazen request: Sit this one out, Mr. President. In a letter delivered right over the Fourth of July weekend, Raskin invoked everything from baseball to Biden’s recital of past speeches, urging the President to embrace what he calls “careful common sense.”
Raskin’s pitch is simple: a seasoned politician should listen to the people – and right now, the people seem to be questioning Biden’s stamina to take on Donald Trump in the next election cycle. Ah yes, the rhetorical flourish of “common sense” was sprinkled throughout his letter, attempting to mask what essentially amounts to a ‘thanks, but no thanks’ message.
Interestingly, Raskin’s letter joins a growing choir of Democrats skeptical of Biden’s chances. It seems the President’s own party members are getting cold feet about his re-election bid. Perhaps they’ve finally realized that saddling up for another round with the man who can’t remember which state he’s in might not be the smartest play.
With reverence dripping from every paragraph, Raskin did his best to sugarcoat the blunt truth. This wasn’t just a polite nudge out the door; it was an all-out plea for Biden to preserve his legacy and let someone else swing for the fences. For a party obsessed with identity politics, one might say they’re finally questioning if their pick of the litter truly belongs in the spotlight.
Raskin even brought up Biden’s old campaign promises and ethereal speeches. He reminded him of the “great work he has begun.” C’mon, is this the same great work that left us with inflation, a botched Afghanistan withdrawal, and an endless border crisis? But sure, let’s applaud what’s “begun” and overlook the trail of chaos it’s left behind.

It appears that Democrats like Adam Schiff are also feeling the heat, openly urging Biden to withdraw for the sake of beating Trump. Imagine that—agents of their own so-called “resurgent monarchy and oppression” now begging for new leadership. Schiff and others seem desperate to sideline Biden under the guise of focusing on defeating Trump, who, unlike Biden, can finish a speech without wandering off track, both literally and figuratively.
To add to the drama, Biden’s bout with COVID-19 has sidelined him this week, only lending more credence to rumors that he might be receptive to stepping aside. The reset button is now a likely option. The man himself, however, clings to the idea of running, unless divine intervention or a new medical diagnosis intervenes. Right, because logical leadership decisions are now left to divine omens and medical reports.
In essence, it’s a Democrat implosion playing out in real time, with Joe Biden in the eye of the hurricane. While his camp insists he’s still in the game, the cracks within are becoming harder and harder to paper over. One wonders how many more Hail Mary letters like Raskin’s it will take before Biden finally steps aside and we witness the Democrats’ new circus act.
