The Feminism and Activism Club at Davis Senior High School in California plans to show “Disclosure: Trans Lives on Screen”, a documentary containing full-frontal male nudity, during the students’ lunch break. This screening will be accompanied by a discussion about the film. The Parents Defending Education group, which advocates for parents’ rights in education, has raised concerns about the suitability of the documentary for minors.
Common Sense Media has reported that the film contains vulgar language like “fuck,” “dicks” and “tits,” causing additional worry for parents. Erika Sanzi, the director of outreach for Parents Defending Education, says that it is not appropriate for minors to view a movie with full frontal male nudity during school time. According to her, the film’s combination of nudity and ideological content makes it unsuitable to be shown to students at school during lunch.
It is unclear if parents had to give permission for their student to view the film at school. The club’s Instagram announcement regarding the event has been removed. The school district collaborated with a parent organization to conduct a seminar for parents on raising transgender kids in December, which sparked objections from parents who disagreed with the integration of “gender ideology” in the school district.
The Feminism and Activism Club, Davis Senior High School and Davis Unified School District have not yet responded to requests for comment from the Daily Caller News Foundation. It is clear that this issue has caused a great deal of controversy within the community and that many parents are concerned about the implications of this film being shown to minors.
Parents Defending Education has made it clear that they do not believe it is appropriate for minors to be watching a film with full-frontal male nudity during school hours.
