According to an unsealed document from Jack Smith's office, Donald Trump could potentially provoke violence if he learned that the Biden Justice Department was investigating his Twitter account. The document revealed that the special counsel's team was able to obtain 32 direct messages from the account. Twitter was also fined a total of $350,000 for failing to comply with a court order.
According to the document, Trump has a history of undermining investigations. He also threatened those who refused to comply with his demands. In addition, it states that he made false claims about electoral fraud during the presidential election of 2020, as well as the violence that occurred at the US Capitol on January 6. It concludes that he poses a threat to witnesses and evidence.
Although the exact contents of the messages are still unclear, prosecutors claim that they do not fall under executive privilege. According to their filing, Trump did not rely on Twitter's direct message function to communicate with his advisors, and he would have used other means of communication.
