Snapchat Discloses Extensive Republican Voter Database to Leftist Groups

Prior to the midterm elections in 2022, Snapchat provided left-leaning political operators with access to the political data of their opponents.

According to Axios' report, Snap's political ad history indicates many Democratic and progressive organizations were able to target their advertising on the platform using data maintained by the Republican-aligned business i360.

Charles Koch, a conservative billionaire, is connected to the company in some capacity.

According to Axios, the Democratic National Committee, the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee, the Planned Parenthood Action Fund, and the gubernatorial campaign of Georgia Democrat Stacey Abrams all used the data that was stolen from Snapchat.

It was stated that some lefty data was made available to conservative corporations as a result of the data leak; nonetheless, its usage by political organisations was far more common on the Democratic side.

According to Axios's explanation, the data utilized by Snapchat and other Big Tech companies is sufficiently specific that it enables political advertisers [to] target their ads to extremely specialized user sections relying on data brokers that hoover up the info on voters' interests, activities, spending habits, and other criteria.

Axios also reported that there's no indication Snap was aware of or supported that data exchange, and that the business has stated that it is taking efforts to fix the lapse. Axios referred to the partisan leak that occurred on Snapchat as a slip-up.

Axios said that the data leak occurred due to an internal mistake at Snapchat, which was prompted by the company's failure to follow its normal process.

A spokeswoman for Snapchat told Axios that the company takes full responsibility for the error that was made. We are also making preparations to prevent this from happening again in the future.

A spokeswoman for the corporation stated that it has contacted those who were affected by the leak as soon as it became aware of the breach.

According to Axios, Republican strategist Eric Wilson was less contemptuous of the "accident" than other party members were.

According to Wilson, Republican clients and their funders will be astonished to hear that their information is being utilized to help Democrats, Planned Parenthood, and other opponents. Republican clients and their donors will be shocked to discover that their data is being used to help Democrats,  They should inquire as to whether or not their marketing activities were used to enrich the data that was provided via Snapchat and inquire as to how this was done.
