Nearly 10,000 migrants have been busted for trespassing in just two years, but that hasn’t stopped the flood of asylum seekers from surging into the United States. They’re crossing the Rio Grande and surrendering to the Border Patrol like it’s going out of style.

Maverick County Sheriff Tom Schmerber has been in the thick of it, watching as the new arrivals pour in and get nabbed left and right in cities like Eagle Pass.
Governor Abbott ain’t playing games. He’s got a new law ready to roll in 2024 that’ll make it even tougher for these lawbreakers. They won’t just face trespassing charges; they’ll be looking at potential deportation courtesy of the Lone Star state.
In November, a whopping quarter of a million people showed up, and December’s set to break records, too. It’s like a never-ending parade of people hankering to make Texas their new stomping grounds.
Kristin Etter, an attorney in the mix, spilled the beans on the whole trespassing mess. She’s seen over 3,000 clients facing these charges. The majority of them end up getting asylum! It’s practically a revolving door.
Operation Lone Star isn’t just for show. It’s the real deal. The Texas Department of Public Safety has snagged over 37,000 criminals, including gang members, sex offenders, and traffickers. As for Eagle Pass Mayor Rolando Salinas, he’s on board with the whole shebang.
