Alem Hadzic, a high school valedictorian from Early College High School in Farmers Branch, Texas, showed incredible strength and dedication by giving his valedictorian speech just a day after his father’s passing. The 18-year-old graduate bravely disclosed to the audience that his father had passed away the day before and that he had just attended his funeral before the graduation ceremony. Alem’s heartfelt speech revealed the burden he had carried since his father’s diagnosis of pancreatic cancer in January.

Alem’s father, Miralem, an immigrant from Bosnia, played a significant role in shaping his character and ambition.
