The Kentucky Department of Education has taken a bold step in support of traditional family values, announcing its instruction guidelines will no longer focus on LGBTQ topics such as gender identity and sexual orientation. This decision comes after the recent implementation of Senate Bill 150, which requires parental consent before students can change their gender identification on school records. The guidance issued by the department specifically dictates that curriculums should not solely focus on subjects such as gender expression, gender identity, or sexual orientation.
For years, parents have complained that public schools are not safe places for their children because of the encouragement of ideologies that are often hostile to religious or conservative values. The department now confirms this and states that the typical fifth-grade sex education curriculum no longer aligns with SB 150. Therefore, schools are to refrain from teaching about basic male and female reproductive body parts and their functions, as well as the physical, social, and emotional changes that occur during puberty.
Moreover, school boards must now adopt policies that respect biological sex, requiring students to use restrooms, locker rooms, or changing facilities designated for their biological sex. Transgender students will be provided alternatives if written parental consent is given. And, perhaps most importantly, these sensitive matters related to transgender student’s gender transitions will be left to the school board.

State lawmakers throughout the country are moving to pass similar legislation to SB 150 because so many parents are concerned about their children’s welfare being undermined by progressive ideologies. Kansas recently passed legislation preventing biological males from using women’s bathrooms, while Republican Nebraska Sen. Kathleen Kauth introduced the “Sports and Spaces Act,” which seeks to require similar protections for students in bathrooms and locker rooms.
Traditional family values are what built this great country. It’s time for activists to stop using our children’s education as an arena for experimentation with morally questionable gender expressions and instead focus on the full academic education of our youth. We must prioritize our children’s welfare by respecting the biological reality and common sense to prevent miseducation through leftist indoctrination.
