Former President Donald Trump dismissed with ridicule the idea that he might contemplate reaching a settlement concerning the property valuation charges brought against him by New York Attorney General Letitia James. "HE DETERMINED THAT I WAS A FRAUD PRIOR TO HIS EVEN VIEWING THE CASE, AND THEN ATTEMPTED TO SET ME FREE." "A TOTAL HIT JOB," Trump wrote in reference to Judge Engoron, wherein he levied the accusation of partiality against him.
The rebuttal case is currently being presented by the state, following the defense's Tuesday recess. James asserts that Trump and his real estate firm intentionally provided inaccurate financial statements in order to obtain advantageous loan and insurance conditions.
In retaliation, Trump has characterized the lawsuit as a politically driven assault with the intention of impeding his prospective presidential campaign in 2024. He asserted that James and her legal team lacked fundamental knowledge of real estate procedures and that financial institutions were keen to conduct business with him.
"All they have is a corrupt attorney general who ran on the platform of 'I will get TRUMP,' and a judge who may be insane but despises Trump," Trump wrote.
Despite Judge Engoron's prior determination of the existence of some fraud, the current focus of the trial is on unresolved allegations and possible financial losses. James is pursuing restitution in excess of $300 million and seeks to prohibit the Trump family from carrying out business activities in New York.
ABC News reported that notwithstanding the gravity of the proceedings, the judge conveyed a sentiment of nostalgia on what is presumably the last day of the trial, stating, "In a peculiar way, I am going to miss this trial. "The experience has been quite remarkable."
