Trump: Only Living President With No Slave Owner Ancestors

According to a study conducted by Reuters, Donald Trump is the only living president in the US who doesn’t come from slave owners. While a number of politicians in the country, such as Supreme Court justices and governors, have ancestors who were enslaved African Americans, Trump's ancestors came to the country after slavery was abolished.

Many German liberals emigrated to the US in search of an opportunity and liberty. There were a number of individuals from Germany who worked to put an end to slavery in the country, including Carl Schurz, who would later become a prominent figure in the Republican Party.

According to a Reuters analysis, around 8% of Democrats, as well as 28% of Republicans, have ancestors who were involved in the ownership of slaves. This suggests that the South's dominant political party, the Republican Party, has a significant portion of this ancestry. Slavery was a common enterprise throughout the 19th century in the South, and this is no surprise since the Democratic Party was traditionally associated with it.

It's important to keep in mind that ancestry doesn't automatically implicate a person in their ancestors' wrongs. Harvard scholar Henry Louis Gates Jr. said that people don't inherit guilt for their ancestors' actions. He noted that the link between people and slavery can be seen in the lives of those who serve in Congress.

It's also important to note that the Republican Party was the main force behind the US' abolition of slavery and the passing of several amendments to the US Constitution, including the 13th, 14th and 15th amendments. It's noteworthy that a higher percentage of the party's members voted for the Civil Rights Act of 1964 than the Democrats did. This legislation prevented racial segregation in public spaces.

It is clear that the left's erroneous claims about the Democratic Party's history regarding the treatment of African-Americans are not accurate.

As indicated by Representative Nancy Mace, R-SC, the country has made significant progress since the 1860s when slavery was still prevalent. Trump's non-slave ancestry shows the stark contrast between himself and other prominent political figures, as he stands for principles such as justice, liberty, and true freedom.
