White House Criticizes Israel But Silent on Egypt Blockading Gaza Aid

The White House doesn’t seem to know which way is up when it comes to critiquing countries for their actions, especially when it involves aid getting to Gaza. While they’ve given Israel flack for not providing aid quick enough and dealing with pesky right-wing activists causing trouble, they can’t seem to muster up the same energy when it comes to Egypt blocking aid trucks.

Egypt has been playing keep-away with the aid trucks trying to get into Gaza, ever since Israel took control of the Rafah Crossing. This move has left aid in limbo, much like a game of musical chairs where the music never starts again. Egypt’s got their beef with Israel’s crackdown on Hamas in Gaza and they’re not budging.

White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre tap-danced around the issue when asked about Egypt’s blockade by Jake Turx, the keen-eyed correspondent from Ami magazine. She offered some non-committal response about diplomatic talks continuing, which is about as helpful as a chocolate teapot.

Despite being pushed for more information, Jean-Pierre kept her cards close to her chest, citing diplomatic reasons. But the message was clear, America wants aid in Gaza, Egypt’s building walls to keep people out, and it’s all a mess over there. Maybe they should try some team-building exercises, get everyone in a room and try to sort this out.
