Elon Musk’s recent visit to the border has sparked some hilarious comments from Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (AOC). Musk has been outspoken about the crisis at the border and the lack of media coverage on the issue. In an effort to shed light on the situation, he traveled to the border and met with officials and law enforcement.
However, AOC seemed more concerned with criticizing Musk’s visit than addressing the actual crisis. In response to a picture of Musk and Rep. Tony Gonzales (R-TX) posted by Fox’s Griff Jenkins, AOC asked, “What’s funny about this photo?” She then went on to criticize Gonzales for leaving D.C. to join Musk at the border, suggesting that he should be in D.C. voting instead.
But let’s not forget AOC’s own history of making a spectacle of herself at the border. She cried at gates and ranted about kids in cages when former President Trump was in office. It seems her concern for the border has waned now that Joe Biden is in office and the problem has only gotten worse.
AOC’s reaction is indicative of the larger problem within the Democratic party. While Elon Musk, a billionaire, is actively trying to bring attention to the crisis and help the American people, Democratic politicians like Biden and Harris seem more interested in photo ops than actually addressing the issue. This is despite the fact that AOC’s own city of New York is being overwhelmed by the crisis, according to fellow Democrat Mayor Eric Adams.
It’s clear that AOC’s comment about Musk’s visit to the border is full of irony. While she may be focused on partisan politics, Musk is focused on the well-being of the American people. And that’s what truly matters.
