Biden Administration’s Border Policies: More Talk, No Real Enforcement

In a desperate bid to convince voters that they are serious about border security, the Biden administration has announced yet another round of bolstered asylum restrictions along the southern border. This flimsy attempt at a tough talking point follows Kamala Harris’s brief and, frankly, laughable visit to the border, which one could argue achieved little more than securing her a cute photo op.

The latest strategy, rolled out with much fanfare, seeks to change the rules of asylum processing. Previously, a threshold of 2,500 migrants attempting to cross the border daily triggered restrictions. Under the new plan, the bar has been raised: now, the number of migrants must dip below 1,500 on average for nearly a month before any restrictions can be lifted. This shift cleverly counts every child entering the country against that limit, expanding the criteria and giving the administration something to boast about, even if it’s just window dressing.

One glaring oversight remains unaddressed: the millions of illegal immigrants already residing in the country. Despite the elaborate restrictions on new migrants, there’s an evident lack of action regarding those who have already crossed the border. Addressing this issue seems far down the list of priorities for a team that appears content with superficial changes rather than actual enforcement. The question remains: how does one combat the ongoing illegal immigration crisis when established policies ignore the existing situation?

The unapologetic truth is that this is less about a genuine commitment to stopping illegal immigration and more about political strategy as the 2024 election looms. The Harris/Biden administration operates with the finesse of a magician—promising a stunning trick while the audience knows the act will end in predictable failure. Expecting Kamala Harris to take a firm stand on border security is akin to hoping that a leaky boat will make it across a stormy sea without taking on water.

The public is not buying the rhetoric, and the administration knows it. The Biden-Harris duo’s approach bears a striking resemblance to that of a cartoon show character who’s tried the same stunt too many times, many waiting for inevitable failure that they’ve witnessed before. The claim that Harris intends to crack down as a potential president is nothing more than wishful thinking. The stark reality, exposed time and again, reveals that their policies promote easier access for illegal immigrants rather than instilling any newfound rigor in border enforcement.

In this chaotic political landscape, it’s clear that a major overhaul is desperately needed. The current administration’s flimsy responses are unlikely to ease the concerns of a public overwhelmed by the consequences of unchecked immigration. The Harris/Biden team would do well to recognize that their policies are more like a bad comedy routine than a serious action plan. People have had enough of the charades; what they want is real and lasting change. Perhaps it’s time for the Biden administration to come up with something genuinely substantial.
