Biden Autopen Scandal Sparks Probe into Leadership and Mental Acuity

The revelation that former President Joe Biden used an autopen to sign many of his executive orders raises more than a few eyebrows among conservatives. This peculiar practice has prompted serious questions about whether the 82-year-old leader was even remotely aware of what he was signing during his time in office. It appears that concerns about Biden’s mental acuity are far more than just casual chatter among the right; they’re turning into a full-blown investigation, thanks to the vigilance of Republican figures like Missouri Attorney General Andrew Bailey.

Bailey, with the legal might of the Heritage Foundation’s Oversight Project at his back, is seeking answers to a crucial question: did Biden’s alleged cognitive decline grant carte blanche to his unelected bureaucrats to push through a slew of radical measures without his comprehension? It’s not just a conspiracy theory anymore; it seems there might be a legal and constitutional crisis brewing over the legitimacy of Biden’s executive actions. If a machine is doing the signing, who really is in charge?

The autopen is hardly a new gadget; it’s been around for over half a century and has seen its fair share of use by past presidents. However, when a device becomes a convenient tool for bypassing direct accountability, it transforms into a potential flashpoint for the new crisis in leadership. Questions are looming about which staff had the keys to this signature machine and if there were any safeguards in place to prevent reckless signing. After all, America deserves to know if a couple of aides were wielding undue influence over the presidency while the commander-in-chief was… well, arguably elsewhere.

Even Speaker Mike Johnson has added fuel to the fire, recalling a moment when Biden seem to have forgotten he had signed an executive order pausing LNG exports. This type of memory slip isn’t just alarming; it echoes throughout his administration. The Oversight Project wasted no time gathering documentation and found that almost all of Biden’s executive orders bore the same autopen signature, apart from a single noteworthy document—his announcement to bow out of the 2024 presidential race. That signature distinctly lacked the “Jr.” suffix, which left some wondering if it was Biden himself or merely another ghostwriter recording history for him.

It would be a tad ironic if Biden’s official decrees, which often landed on the extreme left of the political spectrum, were signed under duress of his aides rather than his own volition. Americans now find themselves caught in a web of questions regarding not just the transparency of Biden’s presidency, but the very essence of democratic leadership. If a president can sign away rights and regulations while not fully conscious of his actions, it raises profound concerns about the administration as a whole. Who is truly leading the country, if not the elected leader himself?
