On Sunday, the 18th of June in 2023, the American people were yet again betrayed by President Biden. Congress had passed a legislation which the President had signed earlier this year binding him to declassify the information about the origins of COVID-19. However, the President, who has been known for his lack of accountability and shortcomings on addressing COVID-19, violated the law and missed the deadline mandated by the legislation. The bill was put forth by Republican Congressman Mike Gallagher who called for the release of all the relevant intelligence surrounding COVID-19 back in 2021, announcing that the American people deserve answers. However, the Biden administration has continued to maintain their claim that the source of the virus remains “inconclusive.”

It must be noted that the virus has disrupted the world and played a significant role in our lives since March of 2020. The American people, along with the rest of the world, have suffered a great deal due to the pandemic, and the source of the virus has remained a mystery. The former Secretary of State Mike Pompeo and Republican Senator Tom Cotton had pointed out in March 2020 that the virus likely came from the Wuhan Institute of Virology. Still, the Biden administration remains hell-bent on discrediting such claims and ignoring the possibility altogether.

The administration has refused to take the easy and necessary step of declassifying all the relevant information regarding COVID-19, which could have helped find answers as to the origins of the virus. The Chinese Communist Party has done all it can to prevent any meaningful investigation into the source of the virus, and the administration’s reluctance to release information only paints a more suspicious picture.
On the 17th of June, one day before Secretary of State Antony Blinken met with Chinese President Xi Jinping and called for moving past the pandemic, the deadline set by Congress was ignored by the Biden administration. The American people are justified in their frustration towards the President and his administration for violating the law and not giving answers that they deserve. It is unclear when or whether the declassified information about the origins of COVID-19 will be released by the administration.
