President Joe Biden recently had a little chat with reporters that turned into an amusing game of “let’s dodge the tough questions.” In a move that’s becoming all too familiar, Biden dismissed the suggestion that he might need to pardon himself, claiming he hadn’t done anything wrong. This is particularly rich coming from a man whose administration often feels like a bad episode of a political soap opera. Biden gave the impression that self-pardoning is something only narcissists do, completely ignoring the fact that he’s thinking about offering clemency to those who might end up on President-elect Donald Trump’s “revenge list.”
In classic fashion, Biden is considering preemptive pardons to protect individuals from the wrath of Trump when he returns to the Oval Office. While it’s always wise to have a good legal defense, one has to wonder why Biden feels the need to offer up these pardons. Did he catch wind of the fact that Trump’s upcoming administration may actually clean house in the federal bureaucracy? It’s almost comical; one can imaginatively picture Biden feverishly scribbling pardon letters while keeping a weather eye on his watch as Inauguration Day looms ever closer.
While Biden fidgets with the idea of clemency, he also reflected on what he plans to do once he shuffles out of the White House. In his perfectly quaint notion of staying relevant post-presidency, he plans to address the nation in a prime-time speech—talk about a “look at me” move. Maybe if he’d spent a little less time crowing about how he’s leaving the world’s strongest economy and more time actually bolstering it, he wouldn’t need this big PR event.

The topic turned to whether Biden regretted stepping aside as the 2024 Democratic presidential nominee, to which he confidently asserted that he and Kamala Harris could have beaten Trump. One wonders if he’s been sipping too much of that White House coffee because it seems a tad disconnected from reality. It’s hard to ignore the fact that Trump not only won the popular vote but also secured the Electoral College victory last year. If Biden truly believes he and Harris could have turned the tide, perhaps a reality check is in order.
Biden wrapped up this enlightening press appearance by expounding on the magnificence of the economy he’s leaving behind. Unfortunately for his supporters, it seems the only thing that’s truly been booming has been inflation. As he enthused about the state of the nation’s finances, one can only imagine how future historians will dissect these comments in light of the economic challenges facing everyday Americans. With the clock ticking down to Trump’s return, one has to wonder if Biden’s optimistic outlook can withstand the reality of what’s actually happening on the ground.
