The Biden administration continues to disregard the crisis at the southern border, leaving Customs and Border Protection (CBP) overwhelmed and overworked. Thankfully, the Pentagon has stepped up to provide much-needed assistance by sending 1,500 active-duty troops to the southern border. This decisive action will reinforce CBP missions against the surge of migrants anticipated later this month as Title 42, a Trump-era authority implemented in the wake of COVID-19, is set to expire.
Although the troops will mostly perform administrative tasks, their presence will fill critical capability gaps, such as ground-based detection and monitoring, data entry, and warehouse support until CBP can address these needs through contracted support. The troops will not take part in any law enforcement work, which should be left to the CBP. Furthermore, it remains unclear if they will be drawn from active-duty units or the Ready Reserve, but more details should become available soon.
While Secretary of State Antony Blinken and Department of Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas announced plans to accommodate the expected migrant surge on April 27, their solutions are woefully inadequate. Rather than secure the border and prevent further illegal border crossings, they propose expanded legal pathways for entering the U.S. and harsher penalties for attempting to enter illegally. President Biden even signed an executive order authorizing the heads of the Department of Defense and Department of Homeland Security to call up reserve troops to active duty for anti-drug missions at the southwest border. It’s clear that the Biden administration is more concerned about appeasing left-wing activists than protecting our nation.
The U.S. has & will continue to enforce our nation’s immigration laws. The U.S. border is not open to illegal or irregular migration, & U.S. immigration laws remain strict even as the COVID-19 public health Order known as Title 42 ends.

In conclusion, it’s time for the Biden administration to take the appropriate measures to secure our southern border. Until then, we are grateful for the support that the Pentagon has provided to the CBP as they work to keep our nation safe. Let’s hope that this temporary solution leads to a more permanent one that puts American safety first.
