Supporters of President Joe Biden are facing a conundrum as they contemplate the prospect of endorsing Kamala Harris for president, should Biden decide to step aside for the 2024 election. It seems that while the Democratic Party is scrambling to line up behind the Vice President, some key figures are hitting the brakes on their endorsements.
Among these figures is Bernie Sanders, who dutifully endorsed Biden’s reelection earlier this year but now finds himself in a waiting game with Harris. It appears Sanders is concerned about whether she will truly address the needs of the “forgotten” working class. The irony of a socialist worrying about whether a sitting president understands the plight of everyday Americans is rich. Sanders reportedly wants to chat with Harris to confirm that her platform speaks to the working class, which must have him shaking in his sandals at the prospect of her failing to deliver.
The United Auto Workers Union, which had previously thrown its support behind Biden, is also holding off on endorsing Harris. UAW President Shawn Fair is applying the brakes with the wisdom of an oncoming traffic light, indicating that an endorsement isn’t forthcoming until they can have meaningful discussions with Harris’s team. This cautious approach seems to echo the collective sentiment of Democrats who are yet to be completely sold on the idea of a Harris presidency. Perhaps they hope that with enough dialogue, this pearl of wisdom will materialize.
Town Hall: Not All Dems Are Jumping to Endorse Kamala https://t.co/RH6g0675oD

Interestingly enough, the UAW has a history of supporting Biden, having praised Harris for her support during the 2019 picket line. Yet, in an amusing twist, they also expressed a not-so-subtle hope that Trump could be defeated and that their next president would be a “champion for the working class.” Who could have seen that coming? It almost seems like they’re throwing shade from the sidelines—hoping for a surefire deal when the best option looks a bit rocky.
As the Democrats prepare for a potential power shift, it is clear that there is a noticeable lack of enthusiasm for Harris among Biden’s former supporters. The gall of them to expect a seamless transition from one administration to another seems to misjudge the considerable skepticism floating in the air. Meanwhile, conservatives can only watch with bemusement as the Democrats try to figure out if they are backing their next champion or simply rehearsing the lines for a soap opera that could rival Reality television. If only they knew how to straighten out their party’s priorities, they might just pull it off.
