President Joe Biden’s world seems to be crumbling around him as the legal troubles of his son, Hunter, continue to escalate. Not only is the President “consumed” by his son’s woes, but he is now reportedly flying into “fits of rage.” According to insiders who spoke with Axios, Biden’s mood is easily shifted by the topic of his son and the ongoing federal cases he faces, all while struggling with his sobriety.
It’s clear that President Biden is feeling the pressure. During a recent press conference, when confronted by a reporter about the ethical concerns surrounding his family’s business dealings, Biden dismissively swatted away the questions, claiming they were all “a bunch of lies.” But the American people aren’t buying it. A significant percentage of Americans, including even Democrats, believe that Biden acted unethically in relation to his family’s business ventures.

The guilt is weighing heavily on President Biden’s conscience. He has expressed regret about running for a second term, believing that if he hadn’t sought reelection, his son would not have been charged with tax and gun crimes. This regret has strained his relationship with U.S. Attorney General Merrick Garland, who granted special counsel powers to David Weiss, the one pursuing Hunter’s case. Biden sees this move as an attempt to appease GOP critics, while simultaneously relinquishing his own authority to approve or deny the cases against his son. It’s clear that Biden believes Garland is more interested in maintaining the appearance of integrity than making the right decision.
Hunter Biden holds a special place in President Biden’s heart as the only other family member to survive a tragic car crash in 1972. Their relationship, however, is described as “particularly deep and complicated” by aides. Few staffers feel comfortable broaching the topic with the President, as it often leads to outbursts of anger or despair.
On top of all this, House Republicans are expected to launch an impeachment inquiry against President Biden. They are searching for evidence that he conspired with Hunter, as well as members of the Biden family, to profit from foreign business dealings that leveraged their family name. Even Senator Chris Murphy, a Democrat, admits that the charges against Hunter, particularly those relating to unpaid taxes, are legally justified.
President Biden has also found himself at odds with Senator Lindsey Graham, a former friend with whom he had a collegial relationship. Biden feels betrayed by Graham’s support for the investigation into Hunter. The President believes that Graham broke an unspoken code about not targeting the children of political opponents. Their relationship has soured, and Biden’s frustration has been evident as he admitted in a fundraiser last year, “He used to be a friend; I don’t know what happened to him.”
It’s clear that President Biden is facing mounting challenges and the weight of his son’s legal troubles is taking a toll on his presidency. The American people deserve a leader who can focus on the important issues facing our nation, rather than being consumed by personal matters.
