Caravan of 3,000 Migrants March to US Border Amid Biden’s Ongoing Border Crisis

A new group of approximately 3,000 migrants has decided to take a leisurely stroll from southern Mexico towards the U.S. border, embarking on their journey just in time for the presidential election season. Their grand plan? To make it into the United States before the ballots are cast in November, all while squawking about their fear that former President Donald Trump might reignite his policies that aimed to keep unauthorized border crossings in check.

One particular migrant, Miguel Salazar from El Salvador, expressed his concerns in a rather melodramatic fashion. He voiced worries that any potential Trump administration might put the kibosh on permits for border crossing, making their current efforts moot. For these folks, it seems that the prospect of legitimate entry through high-tech applications like CBP One is about as appealing as a face full of cold water—unpleasant and likely ineffective. What he doesn’t seem to realize is that the only appointments that seem to matter in this scenario are the appointments of their feet to the pavement.

The caravan, which kicked off from the picturesque town of Ciudad Hidalgo near Guatemala, faces the classic migration challenge: will they be able to maintain their unity over a long and arduous trek? Historically, these massive caravans fizzle out faster than a soda left open on an August afternoon, as participants quickly discover that the road to America is paved with blisters and fatigue. Large groups may offer safety in numbers, combating the ever-present threat of gangs or Mexican immigration officers, but it doesn’t take long for people to decide that they’d rather not walk hundreds of miles.

On social media, the caravan’s launch was like rolling out the red carpet for a reality show. One of the newcomers, a 55-year-old Cuban named Oswaldo Reyna, crossed borders with the enthusiasm of a kid running toward an ice cream truck, joining the growing throng as it heads for the land of the free. Unfortunately, it might just be a matter of time before they find out that reality doesn’t often match the Hollywood script they’ve imagined.

The backdrop to this caravan is the ongoing train wreck at the border under President Joe Biden’s administration. Since he decided to open the floodgates, illegal crossings hit record-breaking highs, putting his team’s border “management” skills to the ultimate test, which they have failed embarrassingly. In a move that reeks of desperation, Biden threw his support behind Vice President Kamala Harris to take over the failing border crisis efforts. Harris, known more for her bond with the abortion rights movement than for anything resembling border expertise, might want to keep her fingers crossed that voters will be more concerned with reproductive freedoms than with the literal flood of migrants heading their way.
