All eyes are on China as it continues to flex its communist muscle and threaten to take control of Taiwan. According to Fox News, Chinese officials are actively trying to recruit allies, including Germany, to support their so-called “peaceful reunification” plan for Taiwan. Of course, we all know that this plan is nothing more than a thinly veiled attempt to exert control over a democratic and independent nation.
Just now:
Annalena Baerbock in ChinaComments on Taiwan after Macron controversy
– Escalation in Taiwan Strait would be "worst-case scenario worldwide"
– Would particularly affect Germany as industrial nation
– Therefore "in our own interest" to work on de-escalation pic.twitter.com/HO43ytlyPz— Richard Walker (@rbsw) April 13, 2023
Despite the Chinese government’s protests to the contrary, any attempt to take Taiwan by force would result in all-out war and unimaginable destruction. Even Germany’s Foreign Minister, Annalena Baerbock, acknowledged this fact during a recent meeting with Chinese officials. Ms. Baerbock wisely stated that a military conflict in the Taiwan Strait “would be a horror scenario for the entire world.”
It’s clear that China is not interested in peaceful resolution, and is attempting to strong-arm foreign countries into supporting their misguided plan. Chinese officials are quick to remind others that they supported Germany’s reunification after World War II, but fail to mention the countless human rights abuses that their own country has committed against its own citizens.
Meanwhile, Taiwan is left to defend itself against a bullying and aggressive superpower. China insists that Taiwan belongs to them, despite the fact that it has been a democratic nation since the end of World War II. It’s clear that China’s only goal is to bring Taiwan under its communist control, and it has been increasingly aggressive in recent years.
It’s concerning that the Biden administration has not taken a stronger stance against China’s aggression, leaving Taiwan vulnerable and alone. The international community must stand with Taiwan and condemn China’s actions before it’s too late. The possibility of a military conflict in the region is not something to be taken lightly, and could have serious global implications.
