Florida Governor Ron DeSantis is taking bold and necessary steps to protect his state from the Biden administration’s latest attempt to inject woke ideology into our financial system. DeSantis’ move, aimed at halting the potential “weaponization of the financial sector” through a Central Bank Digital Currency, should be applauded by all conservatives who value individual freedom and privacy.

The proposal, which would amend the state’s Uniform Commercial Code to prohibit the use of federal or foreign CBDCs, is a much-needed defense against a scheme that would give federal bureaucrats direct control over consumers’ financial activity. A CBDC would provide the government with the power to monitor and regulate every transaction made by American citizens, an egregious violation of our privacy rights.

Unlike decentralized digital currencies such as Bitcoin, a CBDC would be controlled and issued solely by the government, thereby enabling bureaucrats to cut off access to goods and services for consumers at will. Such a move would undoubtedly diminish the role of community banks and credit unions in our financial system, further consolidating government control over our economy.
Governor DeSantis’ actions are particularly noteworthy given that the Biden administration’s CBDC proposal is nothing more than an attempt by Davos elites to impose their leftist ESG agenda on the United States. Florida’s proposed ban on CBDCs is one of several measures the state has taken to push back against the overreach of the federal government.
Jimmy Patronis, Florida’s chief financial officer, has rightly criticized the Biden administration’s move, warning that it would “eliminate privacy and thereby remove individual rights.” He goes on to say that “It’s how we protect freedom, liberty, and prosperity.” And he’s absolutely right. Governor DeSantis and other conservative leaders are taking a stand against the creeping authoritarianism of the Biden administration, and we should all support their efforts.
