GOP’s Secret Weapon: LaRose Aims to Crush Dem Senate Hopes in ’24

The Republican Party is getting ready for the presidential election of 2024, and they’re focused on keeping the House and defeating Joe Biden. They’re also eyeing the Senate, where many of the Democrats are vulnerable. One of the races they’re looking at is Ohio, where Sherrod Brown is up for reelection.

Despite the state's red leanings and being a Trump-friendly area, there are still challenges for Republicans to beat incumbent Sherrod Brown. Many of them believe that Frank LaRose, the Secretary of State, is the best candidate to challenge Brown. According to Tom Zawistowski of the We the People Convention, LaRose has won two state races and has a significant name recognition.

In November, LaRose easily won the election against Chelsea Clark, who was the Democratic candidate. He is the only secretary of state that Donald Trump has endorsed. Bernie Moreno, a businessman, has also entered the race, and he received the endorsement of JD Vance, who won the primary to replace Rob Portman, who was suddenly leaving office after Trump's endorsement. Max Miller, Moreno's son in-law, is a representative from Ohio.

According to Zawistowski, Moreno's endorsement might not be enough as he only has a 9% name recognition. Also, state senator Matt Dolan, who recently entered the race, has a name recognition of only 15%. His stance on Trump could not be considered positive in Ohio, where the president won by 8 points in 2016 and 2020.

According to FiveThirtyEight and POLITICO, LaRose is a worthy candidate. The race for the Senate in Ohio is regarded as a pick-up. Other publications such as The Hill and Roll Call also believe that it is a vital race. Shane West, a political consultant, stated that the race is only starting to get more interesting as the field is far from set.

Although Brown is comfortable with Biden's presence, he is considered vulnerable due to his low approval ratings. The Republicans are hoping to reclaim the Senate in 2024, and they believe they can do it with LaRose's name recognition and Trump's possible endorsements.
