Vice President Kamala Harris is at it again with her misleading statements, this time claiming that the NCAA only allowed brackets for women’s basketball tournaments starting in 2022. What a whopper of a fib! In reality, the NCAA has been using bracket formats for women’s Division I basketball tournaments since way back in 1982. Harris needs to brush up on her sports history before she shoots off her mouth next time.
It seems like Harris couldn’t resist sprinkling some fake news into a conversation about Israel with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. Talking about changing approaches in conflicts is one thing, but spreading inaccuracies about sports history is a whole other ball game. Maybe she should stick to what she knows best, and it definitely isn’t basketball brackets.
The Republican National Committee was quick to call out Harris on her blunder, sharing a video where she confidently claims that women’s teams weren’t allowed to use brackets until recently. The evidence proves otherwise, with Harris even sharing her own bracket in 2021. It’s embarrassing how easily she can get caught in her own web of false information.
While Harris tried to save face by admitting she misspoke and meant to say that women’s tournaments couldn’t use “March Madness” branding until 2022, it’s clear that her fact-checking skills need some serious work. It’s refreshing to see the truth prevail in the face of such blatant misrepresentation, especially when it comes to something as beloved as March Madness.
It’s no surprise that the NCAA has been ahead of the game when it comes to women’s basketball, welcoming the Division I league in 1982. Harris might want to reconsider her choice of topics to exaggerate on, because when it comes to sports, it’s best to leave the tall tales to the pros. Let’s hope she learns her lesson and sticks to facts next time she decides to discuss brackets and basketball.
