Senator J.D. Vance of Ohio has just put a stop to the Biden administration’s attempts to fill Department of Justice positions with politically motivated individuals. He didn’t waste any time slamming on the proverbial brakes, causing a major disruption in their plans. This move blocks the easy appointment of officials and instead forces the full Senate to debate and consider each nominee. And guess what? The GOP can filibuster those votes.
Vance took to social media, sharing a video of his remarks to the Senate, expressing his frustrations with Joe Biden’s shenanigans. He wrote, “No more banana republic stuff from Joe Biden. So long as he goes after his political opponents, I will hold nominations to the Department of ‘Justice’.” And you know what? He’s absolutely right! We can’t allow Biden to use the Department of Justice as a weapon against his political rivals.
Later, Vance addressed the Senate directly and called out Senate Majority Whip Senator Dick Durbin. He started off by pointing out the irony of Democrats complaining about the fentanyl crisis while conveniently ignoring the fact that Biden’s disastrous border policies have contributed to its escalation. Vance had just received a briefing from the Department of Homeland Security and Customs and Border Patrol, confirming this very fact.
Vance didn’t stop there. He emphasized that the objection he raised was unprecedented, but he had a good reason for it. He revealed, “In the past, before I got here, this body approved a number of Department of Justice nominees through unanimous consent. But what Senator Durbin fails to mention is that during that time, the Department of Justice wasn’t trying to throw the President’s political rival in prison.”

The senator continued to expose the truth, stating, “We are living in a banana republic where the President is using his Department of Justice to go after his chief political rival.” It’s absolutely outrageous that the President of the United States would manipulate the DOJ to target his opponents rather than focusing on the well-being of the country.
Vance ended his remarks on a positive note, showing his willingness to approve nominations by unanimous consent if the Department of Justice starts prioritizing law over politics. He made it abundantly clear that until that happens, he will continue to object. Bravo, Senator Vance!
Congressman Matt Gaetz also expressed his support for Vance, posting on social media, “Bravo Senator Vance!” It’s great to see Republicans standing up for what’s right and not letting the Biden administration walk all over them.
Many media outlets are comparing Vance’s stance to that of Senator Tommy Tuberville’s ongoing blockade of senior military nominations. Tuberville is holding back these appointments in order to pressure the Department of Defense to reverse its outrageous policy of using taxpayer money to fund troops’ abortions. Kudos to both of these conservative senators for fighting for our values and principles.
