President Joe Biden is facing a new migraine this Thursday as Jill Stein, the Green Party’s presidential nominee in 2012 and 2016, has officially thrown her hat into the ring for the 2024 election. This is no small headache for Biden, as Stein plans to come at him from the left, which is about as welcome as a toothache on a Monday morning.
In her announcement, Stein didn’t hold back, criticizing Biden for his spending on the “war machine” and blasting the ruling parties for their failure to address the needs of working people while the climate crisis worsens. Stein’s laundry list of left-wing promises, including providing living-wage jobs for all Americans, guaranteeing an Economic Bill of Rights, and creating a Green New Deal, may sound like a fairy tale straight out of a leftist fantasyland. However, it’s evident that she is determined to challenge the status quo and push her radical agenda, much to the chagrin of the establishment.

It comes as no surprise that Stein’s announcement has sent shockwaves through the Democratic camp. With Biden’s poll numbers plummeting faster than a lead balloon, the addition of Stein to the 2024 race is sure to give his campaign severe heartburn. It’s like adding insult to injury for Biden, as the last thing he needs is more competition from the far left.
For anyone who still needs convincing of the potential impact of a Green Party candidate, just look back at the 2016 election, where Stein’s draw of votes was enough to leave bitter Hillary Clinton supporters blaming her for their candidate’s loss to Donald Trump. It’s a painful reminder that Green Party candidates, like Stein, can be like a thorn in the side of the establishment Democrats.
To make matters worse for Biden, Stein is just one of several challengers who are likely to siphon votes away from him, including independents Robert F. Kennedy Jr. and Cornel West. Poor Biden! It seems like everyone and their dog wants to take a swing at him, and at this rate, he might need an entire pharmacy to manage his headaches.
