Joe Rogan has officially gone live on Netflix, and it seems that some liberals have lost their sense of humor in the process. This is not exactly shocking, considering that his live comedy special, “Joe Rogan: Burn the Boats,” quickly became a hot topic for division in the media. Despite being a liberal at heart, Rogan’s unfiltered style and willingness to tackle taboo topics puts a big ol’ thorn in the side of those who hate to see a non-liberal thrive.
For those who may not know, Rogan has long been an enigma wrapped in a mystery for both sides of the political spectrum. Sure, he’s not a card-carrying conservative, but anyone who dares to challenge mainstream liberal narratives is treated as a right-wing puppet nowadays. The irony is enough to make a person chuckle: a guy who was behind the mic supporting the likes of Bernie Sanders now finds himself in a position where his mere existence can trigger the left into a state of existential dread.

The liberal commentators wasted no time sounding the alarms with what can only be described as melodrama worthy of a daytime soap. As Rogan cracked jokes about COVID and various social issues, the outrage brigade took to their keyboards with the fervor only surpassed by a sports fan during the playoffs. Critics labeled the special as a repackaging of tired tropes and complaints against his commentary on vaccination and gender identity. It’s almost like they collectively forgot that comedy can be a wild ride of exploration, not an obligatory pander to the status quo.
What really riles the left is that Rogan has successfully maintained a massive following despite being anything but a conventional comedian. His fans don’t care about the scandalized takes from outlets that overflow with snark but lack substance. They tune in for the same unapologetic approach that has made his podcast a juggernaut — discussions about aliens, conspiracy theories, and the ins and outs of everyday American life delivered with a wink. Clearly, pundits who surveyed the landscape of Rogan’s special were missing the point in their faux indignation.
Let’s not forget that recent comedy is inundated with hosts like Kimmel and Colbert, whose routines often double as ideological pulpits. Rogan, on the other hand, reflects where America is headed — maybe a bit off-kilter but thriving on diversity of thought. If anything, Rogan is a barometer to showcase how out of touch certain media figures are with risks, humor, and creativity because they can’t stand anyone who doesn’t tow the party line.
In a world where strict adherence to orthodoxy is the new norm, watching Rogan navigate between various topics with humor, insight, and a touch of irreverence sends the world of self-appointed media gatekeepers into a tailspin. Liberals have grown accustomed to the societal echo chambers that validate their views without question, making Rogan’s popularity a real thorn in their side. If they’re looking for answers, they might just need to give a little more thought to what makes America tick beyond the cages they often find themselves in.
