Kathy Griffin’s Trump Obsession Continues Amid Fading Relevance And Desperate Antics

Kathy Griffin continues to give the world an unintentional comedy routine, and this time, she’s taken her act to a new, absurd level. The self-proclaimed comedian recently urged her followers to catch her latest show before President-elect Donald Trump supposedly throws her into an “internment camp.” While some may chuckle at the thought, it’s hard not to roll one’s eyes at her desperate attempts to remain relevant in a political landscape that has moved on from her antics.

During an interview with WGN radio, Griffin referenced her New Year’s Eve performance at the iconic Chicago Theater and issued her peculiar warning about being committed to an internment camp by Trump. One would be forgiven for wondering if she had finally taken one too many hits to the funny bone. Her comment about being on Trump’s “enemies list” lacks any real grounding—Trump has hardly mentioned her in years—suggesting that Griffin might be stuck in a self-imposed echo chamber of her own making.

To hear Griffin speak, one would think Trump is lying awake at night, obsessing over her every move. She reminisced about a time when she claimed to have known him well, implying that he was “very scared” of her parody photo that featured a bloody Trump head. In reality, it is Griffin’s obsession with Trump that is both puzzling and tragic. If a showbiz career is built on fading into obscurity after political commentary goes awry, she is a shining example.

The phrase “internment camps” is particularly telling of Griffin’s exaggerated rhetoric. Trump has never indicated any intention of creating camps for his adversaries—this notion exists purely in Griffin’s head, perhaps fueled by her unrelenting need for attention. Her attempt to play the victim is as transparent as her comedy: when all else fails, just throw out a wild conspiracy and hope the audience bites.

In reality, Griffin has yet to recover from the backlash following her infamous 2017 photo shoot where she posed with a bloody effigy of Trump’s head. Since then, she has described dealing with “complex PTSD”—a condition she attributes to her own reckless choices. Her latest harangues are laced with paranoia about America turning into a dictatorship, with commentary that suggests gay individuals might not be “safe” under another Trump administration. Such fear-mongering might resonate in some circles but appears more like the ramblings of a comic struggling to find her place in a world that has clearly moved on.

As Griffin continues to spiral, her declarations serve as a reminder of just how out of touch she is with much of America. While she tries to paint herself as a fearless icon for the left, what often shines through is a desperate attempt to reclaim the spotlight at any cost. Whether she’s blaming Taylor Swift for Trump’s victory or painting a doomsday scenario about our political landscape, the only consistent theme is her unyielding ability to draw laughter—though not in the way she may intend.
