The left appears to be living in a parallel universe where their understanding of voter sentiment has completely evaporated. As the prospect of a second Trump presidency looms ever larger, they remain blissfully unaware of the very issues that propelled him to power in 2016—and that continue to resonate with voters. Whether it’s sheer arrogance, a severe case of denial, or just plain ignorance, the liberal elite seems incapable of grasping that illegal immigration remains a hot-button issue for most Americans.
In their zeal to chase a progressive agenda, Democrats have foolishly tossed aside their previous advantages in healthcare policy, doubling down on proposals that many Americans find utterly unappealing. Their open borders mentality has backfired spectacularly, as evidenced by Trump’s noteworthy gains among Latino voters in 2020—gains that have seemingly vanished from the liberal narrative.

The Biden administration, in all its typical incompetence, attempted to spin a tale that American voters were too daft to recognize the issues at the border. The reality is that voters showed their wisdom by once again backing Trump. With a serious commitment to enforcing immigration laws, the administration has ramped up ICE raids and might even be enlisting local law enforcement as immigration officers—a development that is likely to have most states eagerly agreeing. Under the newly enacted Laken Riley Act, illegal aliens caught committing crimes will face detention. After all, entering the country illegally is itself a federal crime.
Despite the fact that this law passed with solid bipartisan support, liberal commentators whined and fumed as if the sky was falling. Their anxious comments reflect a desperate longing for a world where illegal immigrants pick blueberries for smoothy-obsessed women. It’s highly insulting to imply that deportation somehow equates to the collapse of the economy or reduced smoothie options—after all, there are countless hardworking Americans ready and willing to take those jobs.
Democrat Jenna Arnold’s lament over the supposed impact of crackdowns on illegal immigration on strawberry picking is perhaps one of the more comical assertions to come from the left. In a recent panel discussion, Arnold actually argued that if illegal immigrants were deported, American women would be deprived of their beloved blueberries. Sounds like an Oscar-winning idea for a movie no one wants to see: “The Day The Blueberries Died.”
This line of argument is not only flimsy but a blatant attempt to perpetuate the myth that only illegal immigrants can perform these tasks. The truth is that American workers can and will step up to the plate. As for the list of dire consequences painted by the left? They are merely using scare tactics in a pitiful attempt to sway public opinion. The reality remains that the voters want action—real action—to uphold immigration laws, and Trump is more than capable of delivering just that. The military has even been enlisted to support the ongoing enforcement efforts, ensuring that those who come here illegally are swiftly dealt with—a welcome relief for many who believe in following the rules. The era of letting things slide is coming to an end and with it, the melodramatic blueberry existential threat.
