Leaders of Hamas, such as Yahya Sinwar and Ismail Haniyeh, have long been involved in shaping the narrative on American campuses, alongside other figures like Mahmoud Abbas and Yasser Arafat. Organizations like American Muslims for Palestine (AMP) and Students for Justice in Palestine (SJP) have played a significant role in promoting Hamas-inspired movements like the BDS (Boycott, Divestment, & Sanctions) campaign.
