SHOCKING: DHS Secretary Claims Border is Secure Despite Record Immigration Numbers

During a congressional hearing on Wednesday, DHS Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas defended his past statements about the southern border being secure. Despite record numbers of illegal immigration on the southern border in recent years, Mayorkas stood firm in his previous assertion that the border is secure.

Mayorkas defended his position, stating that he defines security as maximizing the resources to deliver the most effective results. He pointed to the use of technology and innovation as force multipliers that have only increased the agency’s ability to detect, interdict and respond to threats.

Despite Mayorkas’ claims, Border Patrol Chief Raul Ortiz recently testified that the DHS lacks “operational control” of the southern border. Mayorkas’ previous statements have also been contradicted by FBI Director Christopher Wray, who has warned of significant criminal threats coming from south of the border, including drugs, guns, money, and violence.

The irresponsible policies of the Biden administration have fueled the ongoing border crisis, with more than 2.3 million migrant encounters at the southern border in fiscal year 2022 and over 1 million migrant encounters in the first five months of fiscal year 2023. The reckless open borders agenda championed by the Democrats has led to the exploitation of vulnerable people and has made Americans less safe.

The American people deserve a secure southern border, and it’s time for the Biden administration to take responsibility for the ongoing crisis. The DHS secretary’s previous claims that the border is secure ring hollow in the face of record numbers of illegal crossings and warnings from experts. It’s time for the administration to prioritize the safety and security of Americans over political posturing.
