Congressional Democrats are having yet another meltdown, this time over the Supreme Court’s recent ruling that gives Donald Trump some immunity from criminal prosecution for his actions related to the 2020 election. Naturally, they’re convinced it’s the end of American democracy as we know it.
In a 6-3 decision, the Supreme Court’s conservative majority ruled that Trump has absolute immunity for his core constitutional duties. The trial judge will have the task of sorting which actions qualify as official and are thereby protected from prosecution by special counsel Jack Smith. One might think this is common sense, but apparently not if you’re a left-wing politician.

Chuck Schumer is beside himself, calling the ruling a “disgraceful decision by the MAGA Supreme Court.” Democrats haven’t stopped whining since Trump-appointed justices dared to overturn Roe v. Wade in 2022. Schumer claims that this decision undermines the Supreme Court’s credibility. Apparently, in his universe, credibility only means agreeing with his party’s agenda.
Rep. Pramila Jayapal and Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez didn’t miss their chance to get some airtime either. Jayapal labeled the decision “disastrous,” while Ocasio-Cortez is plotting to file articles of impeachment against the justices involved. Of course, these articles lack the votes to pass in a House controlled by Republicans, making this yet another grandstanding move to rile up their base.
High drama ensued as House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries promised aggressive oversight of the Supreme Court to ensure it complies with the Constitution. Meanwhile, Justice Sonia Sotomayor couldn’t resist penning a subversive dissent, claiming the ruling reshapes the presidency and puts the president above the law. Apparently, the idea that certain presidential actions should be immune from prosecution is too complex for some to grasp.
Republicans and Trump, on the other hand, celebrated the decision, heralding it as a win for the Constitution and an important check on Biden’s DOJ, which has been seemingly obsessed with hounding Trump. Trump expressed his joy on Truth Social, proclaiming this ruling should put an end to what he calls “Crooked Joe Biden’s Witch Hunts.”
House Speaker Mike Johnson echoed the sentiment, emphasizing that the decision aligns with the Constitution and should be seen as a triumph not just for Trump, but for the presidency itself. The Democrats can continue their theatrics, but it’s clear that reason and the rule of law had the last laugh this week.
