Trump to Meet GOP Senators, Discuss 2025 Agenda and VP Picks

Former President Donald Trump is set to meet with Republican senators in Washington this week, according to a source familiar with the situation. Sen. John Barrasso, the third-ranking GOP senator, has invited the presumptive Republican presidential nominee to meet with Senate Republicans on Thursday while he is in a town meeting with the Business Roundtable lobbying group. Barrasso expressed his belief that it would be beneficial to hear directly from Trump about his summer plans and share their ideas for a strategic governing agenda in 2025.

The meeting, which will take place at an undisclosed location, not at the Capitol, has been reported by NBC News. During the meeting, the GOP’s 2025 agenda will be discussed with Trump, who is considering several Republican senators to be his vice presidential running mate, including Sens. Marco Rubio, J.D. Vance, and Tim Scott. Barrasso, who Trump backs in his bid to be Senate Republican whip next Congress, is the chairman of the Senate Republican Conference.

It remains unclear whether Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell will attend the meeting. Despite a challenging relationship between them since the Jan. 6 attack on the Capitol, McConnell has endorsed Trump and has not spoken to him since. If he chooses to attend, it would mark the first time being in the same room as Trump since before the riot.
