In a bold move to take on China, former President Donald Trump gave the Central Intelligence Agency a top-secret mission to wage a social media war against the Chinese government in 2019. Trump’s CIA team of sneaky operatives took to Chinese social media with a vengeance, spreading all sorts of rumors and negativity about President Xi Jinping and his government. They didn’t hold back, folks. The operatives were out there bashing the Chinese government, leaking intelligence, and just generally causing mayhem.

Now, these operations weren’t just some made-up stories. The former officials who spilled the beans on this secret mission said that the narratives were totally based on facts, even though they were being pushed out there by undercover intelligence agents. The goal was to make those Chinese leaders paranoid and waste their time and resources trying to stop the spread of these negative stories on their tightly controlled internet. Trump knew what he was doing, and he wasn’t holding anything back in his fight against China.
And get this, y’all: Trump didn’t stop there. He also had the CIA launch secret cyber operations against China, Iran, Russia, and North Korea. Those orders gave the CIA more freedom to do all kinds of cyber stuff against those countries, and they didn’t have the same restrictions they had before. Trump was really shaking things up in the world of international espionage, and he wasn’t afraid to show it.
Now, as for China’s response, they didn’t take too kindly to all this. A spokesperson for China’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs straight up accused the U.S. government of using “public opinion space and media platforms as weapons to spread false information and manipulate international public opinion.” Yeah, as if China is innocent in all of this, right? They’ve got some nerve.
As for the CIA’s response, they didn’t have much to say about the whole operation. And as for President Joe Biden, it’s unclear if he decided to keep the operation going after he took over in 2021. Who knows what’s going on behind those closed doors, but one thing’s for sure: Trump really made a mark with his anti-China antics, and he wasn’t afraid to stir the pot on the global stage.
