In a shocking turn of events, a federal appeals court has ruled that former President Donald Trump is not immune from prosecution by the federal government. This means that the Special Counsel Jack Smith’s case against the 45th president can move forward, pending the inevitable appeal to the Supreme Court. The three-judge panel for the U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia made it clear that Trump, as a citizen, is not entitled to the broad immunity that he once enjoyed as president. They basically said, “Hey Donny, you can’t hide behind your old job anymore.”

Now, this outcome didn’t exactly come as a huge surprise to anyone paying attention. It was pretty much expected by everyone following the case, especially the special counsel himself. Jack Smith had even tried to fast-track the whole thing straight to the Supreme Court, but that plan got shut down real quick. The oral arguments in the Supreme Court regarding a different Trump-related case are set to happen this week, so it looks like Donny’s legal troubles are far from over.
In response to the court’s decision, a spokesperson for Trump’s 2024 campaign, Steven Cheung, came out swinging, warning about the dangers of not giving presidents complete immunity. He argued that if immunity isn’t granted, then every future president who leaves office will be immediately targeted by the opposing party. It’s like the Wild West out here, folks!
Cheung went on to say that “Deranged Jack Smith’s prosecution of President Trump for his Presidential, official acts is unconstitutional under the doctrine of Presidential Immunity and the Separation of Powers. Prosecuting a President for official acts violates the Constitution and threatens the bedrock of our Republic.” Translation: “This is totally unfair, and we’re gonna fight it tooth and nail!”
