In the final stretch leading to Election Day, presidential candidates typically seek to charm undecided voters and those who might need a little extra nudge to hit the polls. But for the Democratic nominee, Vice President Kamala Harris, it seems like her campaign has taken on more of a damage-control mission than anything else, trying to staunch a major loss of support within her own party. Despite her promises of taxpayer-funded goodies through the wonders of Bidenomics, the vice president’s polling numbers have stagnated, essentially creating a logjam against Republican nominee Donald Trump.
Polls indicate Harris is facing an unprecedented crisis of confidence, particularly among the traditional strongholds of the Democratic Party. Take, for instance, her performance with Hispanic voters, where she is pulling numbers that can only be described as dismal. It’s a shocking sight to see Harris now trailing among Hispanic men and nearly bleeding out voter support from the group that is pivotal to any Democratic success. However, the most alarming stat of all is among black voters, the core of the Democratic base, where Harris is struggling to produce even modest support.

Recent polling data reveals that Harris’s backing from black voters has dropped to an average of just 81%. To put this in perspective, she is lagging nearly 16 points behind President Joe Biden’s 2020 performance, which means she’s attempting to navigate a political minefield with one leg tied behind her back. Even more telling is that Trump’s 14% backing from this demographic marks a record high for a Republican contender since Richard Nixon’s defeat back in 1960. This trend looks even more severe when focusing on specific subsets within the black community.
In a recent poll by the New York Times and Siena, a staggering 70% of black men and 83% of black women expressed support for Harris, falling significantly behind the numbers seen during Biden’s campaign. When honing in on the younger demographic, the statistics only worsen, with only 72% of black voters under 30 backing her as opposed to 92% who backed Biden in 2020. Even the attempt to rally these younger voters by bringing in former President Barack Obama didn’t land as hoped. Instead of gaining traction, Harris has doubled down on her so-called “Opportunity Agenda for Black Men,” which includes everything from legalizing recreational marijuana to offering a whopping $20 billion in loans to black entrepreneurs.
While the latest offerings may seem like generous incentives, one has to question the sincerity behind such proposals, barring any true substance, especially when drinking from the well of “Opportunity Economy” after a lackluster record. This aged plan fails to command respect and borders on ridiculousness. After all, can anyone truly believe that black men care more about marijuana access and cryptocurrency than the high costs of living arising from the current economic debacle?
The Biden-Harris administration has strutted around boasting of monumental climate change policies and corporate regulation, while the reality is far less glamorous. Their policies have added at least $8 trillion to the national debt and sent inflation through the roof, leaving voters to wonder about any tangible benefits. More than half of likely voters now rate the economy poorly, and a staggering percentage of black voters feel abandoned by the very policies that were intended to uplift them. It’s isolating, to say the least, when even after the inflation monster has shown some signs of retreat, many voters find themselves having to cut back on essentials.
Harris’s simultaneous attempt to appeal to the center while defending a disastrous track record is not just politically awkward—it’s downright insulting. It’s as if she thinks newly minted platitudes alone will erase the chaos of the past few years. Voters are not in the mood for sweet nothings or clever wordplay; they’re looking for real solutions to the very problems the current administration has created. With every new blunder, Harris seems to be highlighting just how out of touch the Democrats are, and with Election Day closing in, it’s a gamble for her legacy and the party’s future.
