Biden and Harris Push for Supreme Court “Reforms” Amid Accusations of Partisan Power Grab

Vice President Kamala Harris and President Biden are rolling out their latest master plan to “reform” the Supreme Court, and it’s nothing short of a partisan circus act. This announcement, conveniently timed with Biden’s endorsement of Harris after his decision to sit out the 2024 presidential race, has raised eyebrows among those who appreciate the judicial system that has operated for over two centuries. The proposed reforms, such as term limits for justices, might sound attractive on the surface. Still, they seem more like an attempt to regain control over a court that has recently upset the liberal apple cart with some unexpected rulings.

Harris expressed that Congress should put their heads together to pass these “important reforms,” which she believes are essential to restoring trust in the Supreme Court. The irony is rich, as her party has spent years undermining that trust with relentless attacks on the justices, particularly after decisions that protect unborn life and uphold the Second Amendment. Harris conveniently labels the Supreme Court as being in a “crisis of confidence.” Still, one might wonder whether that crisis stems from the court’s recent rulings or from the left’s displeasure at having their ideological goals thwarted.

The Vice President made a point to assert that “no one should be above the law,” as if she were giving a personal nod towards former President Trump, who seems to occupy the minds of Democrats more than any actual policy issue. Such proclamations are amusingly hypocritical, coming from leaders of a party that has previously labeled all federal enforcement of rules and laws affecting them as “unnecessary.” It’s almost as if they believe they’re entitled to special treatment when it comes to legal accountability, a true “rules for thee, not for me” situation.

Biden, in an op-ed dripping with concern, claimed that the current Supreme Court was “dangerous and extreme.” Given that his statements come after numerous rulings that align with public sentiment on vital issues, it raises the question of just what “extreme” means in Biden’s playbook. It appears that any decision counter to the Democratic agenda is deemed too far-left for comfort while demanding accountability from the judiciary feels like just another part of their never-ending campaign for dominance over all parts of government.

In their quest to reform the Supreme Court, both Biden and Harris seem to overlook an important fact: a strong judiciary is one of the cardinal pillars that uphold democracy. If their strategy is to diminish the Supreme Court’s role to simply echoing the whims of the current administration, they may find they’ve opened a Pandora’s box that could easily swing in favor of future conservative leadership. Harris touts that these reforms will restore confidence. Still, one has to wonder if they’re more interested in reshaping the court to fit their political narrative rather than preserving its integrity. It’s all a part of the ongoing saga where what’s good for the goose isn’t necessarily good for the gander, especially when the gander has a solid grip on the law.
