President Joe Biden criticized Russia’s violent and aggressive actions against Ukraine, calling it a “massive bombardment” that demands immediate action. The Russian airstrike, which occurred in the wee hours of Friday morning, targeted schools, hospitals, and residential areas, marking it as one of the largest attacks since the conflict began nearly two years ago.

Biden expressed deep concern over the use of drones and missiles, including those with hypersonic capability, to strike innocent civilians and vital infrastructure across Ukraine. He emphasized that the attack serves as a glaring reminder of Russian President Vladimir Putin’s unwavering objective to completely decimate Ukraine and subjugate its people.
While Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky reported that the majority of the 110 rockets fired during the attacks were intercepted, several struck critical civilian sites, such as a maternity hospital, a shopping mall, and residential areas. Furthermore, Biden underscored the importance of the United States and other partners in delivering air defense systems to Ukraine, which significantly aided in intercepting many of the missiles.
The president urged Congress to swiftly approve additional funding to support Ukraine and bolster its defense capabilities. Without such crucial assistance, the ability to provide essential weapons and air defense systems to protect the Ukrainian people would be severely hampered.
Zelensky disclosed that Russia deployed a significant portion of its arsenal during the attacks, resulting in the tragic loss of at least 18 lives and leaving 130 individuals injured. Biden underscored the broader implications of the conflict, emphasizing that Putin’s aggressive actions pose a threat not only to Ukraine but also to NATO Allies and global stability.
Highlighting the international solidarity in support of Ukraine, Biden acknowledged the coalition of over 50 countries standing together to defend the embattled nation. He stressed the importance of not abandoning Ukraine and its people, emphasizing the historic significance of answering the call for freedom during this critical time.
