Ted Cruz’s eye-opening report, suggesting that under this administration, science has morphed into a vehicle for social justice rather than a pursuit of knowledge.
Sen. Cruz’s bombshell report indicates that more than a quarter of the National Science Foundation’s (NSF) funding has been siphoned towards leftist initiatives masquerading as “academic research.” The Biden-Harris team appears to have brushed aside actual scientific inquiry, instead opting to financially back radical ideological pursuits disguised as research grants. In the name of “diversity,” American taxpayers are left wondering whether their dollars are truly being utilized for scientific advancement or merely to bolster a long list of woke agendas.
Meanwhile, science funding – yes, even in the NSF – is being directed towards frivolous DEI-themed non-research.

Shortly after President Biden took office, a so-called task force on “scientific integrity” aimed to assess how diversity, equity, and inclusion policies affect scientific research. However, it seems this endeavor has morphed into a mandate that requires every aspect of scientific planning and execution to revolve around DEI considerations. Instead of focusing on groundbreaking discoveries, federal science agencies are scrambling to ensure they are diverse enough on paper—one can only imagine how that will impact actual science.
The facts laid out by Cruz’s report are nothing short of shocking. Over a two-year span, NSF doled out more than $2.05 billion to various scientific projects that, rather than being about advancing human knowledge, instead promoted DEI initiatives. The findings suggest that out of over 32,000 grants approved during this period, a staggering 27% were focused solely on the latest fads in social justice—totally ignoring the foundational principles of science itself. The report cites that grants tied to “social justice” alone amounted to $1.6 billion. This raises a critical question: is it really science if it prioritizes ideological agendas over empirical evidence?
The conclusion from these revelations is clear. The Biden-Harris Administration has seemingly weaponized what should be a hallowed pursuit—scientific research—by embedding their political agenda into its core ethos. Awarding taxpayer funds to projects that clearly neglect the principles of inquiry in favor of ideological conformity is nothing short of an insult to every scientist dedicated to the objective study of the world around us. The persistence of this administration in pushing forward its anti-American, anti-intellectual DEI agenda simply cannot go unchecked.
Among the less-than-stellar examples of this research dalliance, one finds absurdities like a $99,791 grant to Georgia Tech aimed at disrupting “racialized privilege in the STEM classroom.” Meanwhile, a San Jose State University project enjoyed a hefty sum of $401,744 to turn science education into an arena for climate justice activism. The irony here is overwhelming; while some scientists are advocating for accountability and rigor, the Biden-Harris Administration appears to be auctioning off research integrity to the highest social justice bidder. The potential consequences of this trend for genuine scientific progress are alarming, and it’s high time someone shined a light on this dubious use of public funds.
