Biden Unfazed: No Interview for Classified Docs Review?

President Joe Biden has confirmed that he has not been approached for an interview by the special counsel currently investigating his handling of classified documents. Speaking to reporters after a Pilates class, the president stated, “There’s no such request and no such interest.” It appears that Biden’s lawyers have been in negotiations with the special counsel over the possibility of an interview, but so far, no request has been made.

Back in January, U.S. Attorney General Merrick Garland appointed Robert Hur as the special counsel to investigate the classified documents found in Biden’s garage and at the Penn Biden Center. Mr. Hur’s investigation focused on Biden’s possession of sensitive government documents from his time as vice president and senator. In a statement released by the Justice Department, Hur pledged to carry out the investigation with fairness, impartiality, and thoroughness.

NBC previously reported that discussions between Biden’s legal team and the special counsel have been taking place to determine the terms of a potential interview. These discussions have involved aspects such as the location, timing, and the scope of the questions. However, it remains uncertain whether an interview will take place at all.

It’s worth noting that former President Donald Trump faced similar scrutiny when he was indicted for mishandling classified documents by special counsel Jack Smith. Trump pleaded not guilty in a Miami courtroom in June. It seems that investigations into the handling of classified information have become a common theme in recent years.

As for President Biden, he continues to deny any request for an interview from the special counsel and remains fully focused on his daily routines, such as attending Pilates classes in South Tahoe, California.
