A 23-year-old Texas woman, Vanessa Valadez, recently learned that crossing the border illegally with a group of migrant children has consequences. One might think the Biden administration’s open-border policy would create an environment of carefree migration. However, Valadez and her accomplices not only smuggled kids under the age of five but went so far as to sedate these minors with melatonin gummies to ensure a smooth passage through border checkpoints. Apparently, make-believe families and drugged-up children are all part of the new American immigration policy.
In an alarming tale, Valadez’s smuggling operation came to a screeching halt after law enforcement stopped them during a routine inspection at the Juarez-Lincoln Bridge. It’s ironic, isn’t it? While President Biden and his team throw the border wide open, authorities are still managing to catch a few of these schemes. The smuggling ring even attempted to use a fraudulent birth certificate to convince authorities that they were a family. Because when you think about family values, obviously this should be top of the list—deceitful smuggling and illegal documents.

On September 29, Valadez and her crew pulled off a successful, albeit shady, operation wherein they transported a young girl from a stash house to downtown Laredo, only to subsequently hand her off to mysterious individuals. It raises the question of what happens to these children once they are no longer in the hands of their smugglers. With four girls being transported through this operation, three of them unaccounted for, it becomes painfully clear that the Biden administration’s let-it-fly immigration strategy creates a perfect environment for child exploitation.
The Department of Homeland Security recently shed more light on this situation, with a report revealing that approximately 32,000 unaccompanied alien children have vanished into thin air since they crossed our border. By all accounts, it seems as if these kids are slipping through the cracks, raising serious concerns about trafficking and exploitation, a far cry from how migrants were supposed to be treated. But let’s not kid ourselves; the priority here undoubtedly feels more about numbers heading to the voting booths than about protecting kids.
Texas GOP Representative Lance Gooden’s call for accountability from the Biden administration emphasizes how overlooked this issue has become. With rampant criminal activity entangled with migrant children already in the U.S., one has to wonder whether Democrats are just fine with a system that encourages such practices in exchange for political gain. By twisting the narrative around immigration while remaining willfully blind to the dangers involved, the administration sends a clear message: the safety of these children doesn’t seem to rank high on their list of priorities.
