The withdrawal of Joe Biden from the 2024 presidential race has not dimmed his ambition. In what can only be described as a desperate attempt to regain the trust of his far-left supporters, Biden is now gearing up to unleash a series of unconstitutional proposals aimed at reshaping the U.S. Supreme Court. This move has already sparked outrage among fans of Donald Trump, who might understandably feel that the president is throwing a tantrum over recent court rulings.
It appears Biden has had a change of heart—or perhaps a change of mind—after a lackluster debate performance against Trump. Suddenly, he’s all about courting the progressive wing of his party with some radical alterations to the Supreme Court. In his latest Oval Office address, he seemed to embrace a path that mirrors a frantic last-minute campaign strategy, promising reforms that, if one squints hard enough, could come across as heroic rather than harebrained.

Among the absurdities Biden is expected to propose are term limits for Supreme Court justices, a code of ethics for court members, and undermining presidential immunity. This last piece of business seems particularly juicy, as it aims to directly respond to a recent Supreme Court decision regarding Trump’s alleged official misconduct. It’s almost as if Biden is throwing a bone to the progressive dogs in exchange for their loyalty, as they lick their wounds from a president who couldn’t deliver against a legendary former president in a debate.
That being said, Biden’s high-flying schemes face more obstacles than a giraffe trying to hide in a room full of curtains. Amending the Constitution to impose term limits on justices is no stroll through the park. It requires a two-thirds supermajority in both the House and Senate and a three-fourths majority among the states to ratify. Good luck with that; history shows it’s about as likely as finding a unicorn on a golf course.
Critics are already rolling their eyes at Biden’s “brave” initiatives. Jonathan Turley, a prominent legal scholar, has been particularly vocal in condemning these plans, which he describes as an opportunistic maneuver from a president scrambling to retain favor in a party increasingly occupied by radicals. He sees this as an attempted hijacking of the Supreme Court’s integrity, reducing its hallowed status to just another political toy to be manipulated in the name of party loyalty. In the end, it seems Biden is less about upholding justice and more about pandering to his base—an embarrassing spectacle for any leader, let alone one in his position.
