The recent release of decade-old audio recordings of Joe Biden’s interviews with a ghostwriter has ripped the cover off a story Democrats wanted buried, and hardworking Americans deserve to see the truth. After a protracted legal fight, federal officials provided transcripts and audio that had been fought over for months, forcing these private conversations into the public square.
What’s on the tapes is troubling on its face: Biden is heard discussing sensitive foreign-policy matters and referencing notes that contained classified material, and in some clips he appears to struggle with memory during questioning. Those facts are not partisan spin — they come straight from the recordings that the administration fought so hard to keep secret.
The legal history here only makes the matter worse. A conservative group sued to obtain the files after Special Counsel Robert Hur ultimately decided in 2024 not to charge Mr. Biden for how he handled classified information, and Biden later sued the Justice Department to block release of the recordings. That sequence — a decision not to charge, then extraordinary efforts to keep the tapes hidden — looks more like protection than transparency.
An appeals court recently rejected Biden’s bid to keep the files under wraps, clearing the way for DOJ disclosure to Congress and outside groups, even as administration spokespeople complain about political motives. Conservatives and ordinary citizens have every right to be skeptical when the same Justice Department that declined prosecution is selective about which documents see daylight. The American people deserve answers, not excuses.
Let’s be blunt: when evidence that raises serious legal and cognitive questions about a president is hidden and litigated away, confidence in the rule of law erodes. Many patriots see a pattern — hush, delay, and then a half-hearted defense of privilege — that smells more like political protection than impartial justice. If the Justice Department is going to play favorites, then Congress must act to reclaim oversight and restore public trust.
Prosecutors and investigators who once concluded no charge was warranted owe the public a clear explanation of how they reached that conclusion in the face of new, uncomfortable evidence. The country cannot accept a two-tiered system where one set of rules applies to powerful Democrats and another to everyone else; accountability must be blind to party.
Patriots who love this country and believe in equal justice under the law should be angry — not because of politics, but because America’s institutions must mean something. We must demand a full accounting, real transparency, and consequences if laws were broken, no matter who sits in the Oval Office. The future of our republic depends on it.
