San Francisco Mayor London Breed, a proud Democrat, is in a political pickle as she gears up for her reelection campaign. Recent polling has shown that her popularity is plummeting faster than a lead balloon, and she’s getting trounced in the polls by her challenger, Daniel Lurie. And if that wasn’t bad enough, the city’s budget deficit is sprouting like a weed in a neglected garden.

To make matters worse, Breed is getting dusted in the fundraising game. Her campaign and friendly committees have scraped together a measly $4.8 million, while her opponent, Lurie, has hauled in a whopping six times that amount since September. Yikes!
But wait, there’s more! Breed’s biggest buddy in the money game, an old friend from the Big Apple, Michael Bloomberg, has tossed a mere $200,000 her way. It seems like even Bloomberg’s deep pockets can’t staunch the bleeding in Breed’s campaign coffers.
Her rival, Daniel Lurie, on the other hand, doesn’t have to worry about sweet-talking former mayors for cash. Nope, he’s got family money to back him up. His mom and brother have cut big fat checks totaling over a million dollars to support his campaign. It’s like playing Monopoly with the bank on your side!
Meanwhile, another candidate, Ahsha Safai, has his eye on public matching funds, which could inject another $1.2 million into his war chest. Golly, it’s like Christmas in January for the Safai camp!
Now, if things weren’t chaotic enough, rumor has it that former Mayor Mark Farrell might swoop in like a superhero and join the race. It’s like a political drama unfolding in the City by the Bay!
