A video that should outrage every decent American surfaced from the Jersey Shore: on July 3, a grown woman allegedly walked up on a group of teenagers on the Point Pleasant Beach boardwalk and slapped a 16-year-old girl for wearing patriotic sweatpants with the words “Trump” and “ICE.” Security footage makes the encounter plain — an adult assaulting a child over political clothing — and it should remind us all that lawlessness and political hatred have real victims.
The Department of Homeland Security didn’t sit on this one; it shared the footage publicly and confirmed the woman is a Canadian national now in Immigration and Customs Enforcement custody pending removal proceedings. DHS officials say she entered the country in April 2024 and overstayed a visa that expired in September of that year, a basic immigration violation that turned into a criminal matter when she allegedly attacked an American teen.
Local prosecutors moved with the evidence: point-blank charges include simple assault, endangering the welfare of a child, harassment and obstruction after investigators reviewed the video and identified the suspect. Police accounts state she walked away from officers at the scene and was later identified through social media and passport information, all the more reason this was not a case of mistaken identity or a misunderstanding.
Good for ICE and DHS for following the law where too many institutions would have looked the other way. The agency’s public post called the suspect out by saying she had “no business being in our country,” and their controlled transfer shows what accountability looks like when federal authorities are allowed to enforce immigration laws. Americans sent elected leaders to protect our streets and children first, not coddle lawbreakers.
Don’t buy the victim-playbook being peddled on social media by the suspect’s husband and allies; the emotional videos and fundraising pleas don’t erase the footage nor the crime. Platforms even removed a GoFundMe tied to the case for violating policies on fundraising for violent crimes, which should tell you where public sympathy rightly belongs — with the teenager who had a grown stranger strike her on a busy boardwalk.
This isn’t just about one bad actor from out of the country; it’s about a broader refusal by the left to reckon with the real consequences of porous borders and cultural contempt for law-abiding Americans. If we want safer streets and secure communities, we must back the kind of enforcement that sends a clear message: assaulting our children and overstaying visas will not be tolerated. (Opinion)
Hardworking Americans deserve leaders who stand with victims, not with perpetrators who sneer at our values.
