The Democratic Party seems to be piling on the confusion and bizarre antics ever since former President Donald Trump hinted at a potential pairing with Senator JD Vance as his running mate this month. Timid Democrats are struggling to find a meaningful criticism of Vance, instead opting for a less-than-stellar campaign to paint him as “weird.” The irony here is deliciously thick, considering their own recent behavior. Just look at Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer, who has gone to absurd lengths to malign Vance during various media appearances.
Last Sunday, Schumer took to CBS News’ “Face the Nation” to offer his oh-so-reasonable opinions, showcasing not only his usual blundering but also a shocking level of devotion to Vice President Kamala Harris. He went out of his way to claim that the Biden-Harris record is “incredible” while advocating for Democrats to cozy up to Harris on the campaign trail. The track record he lauded is hardly worthy of celebration—15 million unvetted migrants entering the country, soaring inflation, and a steadily escalating conflict in Ukraine don’t typically earn a round of applause among everyday Americans.

The messaging from figures like National Republican Senate Committee Chairman Steve Daines is crystal clear: connecting the dots between Democratic candidates and the Biden-Harris administration’s disastrous record could be the key to a victorious 2024 campaign cycle. The more Schumer and his comrades fan the flames of their unfounded alarms, the more it reveals their worry. As they scuttle about trying to paint JD Vance as the next great political oddity, it’s essential to remember that the Democratic playbook might just be the most bizarre script of all.
