Americans saw the familiar pattern play out: a prominent liberal politician is called out for invading people’s private space, offers a carefully worded promise to do better, and the left moves on. Former Vice President Joe Biden released a video on April 3, 2019 saying he would “be more mindful” about respecting personal space after a series of uncomfortable encounters were highlighted by critics and the press.
The pushback that followed was modest and predictable — a media narrative focused more on framing than on accountability. Multiple outlets reported Biden’s video and framed it as an acknowledgment that “social norms are changing,” while noting women had said his tactile style made them uncomfortable.
Conservatives and working Americans watched in disbelief as the left’s outrage machine applied different rules depending on partisan convenience. Even mainstream conservative outlets cataloged Biden’s missteps and asked why the establishment repeatedly gives Democratic figures a pass on the very behavior they savage on the right.
This isn’t about cheap partisan points; it’s about basic decency and equal standards. If our system and our media truly cared about protecting women and upholding norms of respect, they would insist on the same tests for every candidate and public figure, not reflexively install shields for their favored side.
Hardworking Americans deserve leaders who respect boundaries and tell the truth without spin. It’s time for honest vetting, real accountability, and a media that treats all accusations with the seriousness they deserve — no exceptions, no double standards, and no more lectures about decency unless they apply to everyone.
