A Lakeland Police drone located 27-year-old Isaac Ian Kinsey about thirty minutes into the search, and officers were able to rescue both children and take Kinsey into custody; the youngsters were treated at Lakeland Regional and later released. Police say Kinsey displayed signs of impairment at the scene and that investigators found two empty child seats inside the crashed vehicle, a damning detail that adds weight to the charge sheet.
Let there be no equivocation: this is not a moment for excuses or for hand-wringing over root causes while the facts sit in plain sight. A grown man chose to drive while intoxicated, barrels through road-closure barriers, and then drags small children into a swamp — the only appropriate reaction from decent people is righteous condemnation and a demand for accountability. This is personal responsibility, plain and simple, and those who assault the safety of children deserve the harshest consequences the law allows.
The quick work of Lakeland officers and their drone unit deserves praise; law enforcement showed the competence and courage too often taken for granted by a culture that dismisses their sacrifices.
